Holly Springs Park Master Planning & Design
Recreation and Parks Authority
Since October 2012, Foresite Group has been working to complete master planning and design for a new park in the City of Holly Springs. This project was awarded through an on-call contract with the Cherokee County Recreation & Parks Agency. Cherokee County is located 30 miles Northwest of Downtown Atlanta, and has been named the 25th fastest growing county in the nation.
This 33-acre site currently holds two vacant, residential structures, has more than 80 feet of elevation changes, and is bordered by numerous residential properties. Public involvement is a large component of the master planning phase and community feedback is a critical aspect of the design. Users expressed a desire for a passive park with ADA-compliant trails, a restroom building, a playground and an open play field. The conceptual design placed high importance on maintaining existing trees on the property to address privacy concerns. Phase I design will begin in January 2013, with project construction expected to begin in Fall 2013. The total project budget is 1.5 million dollars and is funded through Cherokee park bonds.
